Yes I have heard of that car, I was told it was owned by Dave Robertson in Invercargill. It raced in the OSCA series which featured repowered old cars.

Here is an article about the OSCA cars in NZV8 http://www.v8.co.nz/articles/toyota-starlet-giant-killer-61

In that arctile it talks about Trevor Crowe's Hillman Avenger fitted with an Oldsmobile V8

This is a link to Trevor Crowe's website and you can see he won a few rallies in a V8 Avenger in 1978.

After writing this I decided to email Trevor about his Avenger mentioned in the NZV8 article and he kindly sent me some details on the rally Avenger.

I put the photos under a new post. Click here to see it.

cool on the ball avenga so will it be back out racing or rallying will it be joining these pages?

It would be neat to track down what happened to in the the end but as Trevor said in the other post it was sold then totalled then reshelled so it would be hard to track down where it is now.

can just make out reg in rallycar pics is 3473 is it can it be traced at all over here? maybe he would remember the guys name who he sold it to
1800 i wonder did it have a brm head or at the least it was a brazillian wonder were its lieing now would be a nice find mal stuart is sourcing rebuild kits for brazillians in argentina would suit miles new 2 door could be worth some investigating......

I Checked the plate and IS3743 comes up "No information available" which means the plates went dead a long time ago

I would say it would have been just a brazilian 1800, We didn't get the BRM heads over here. Even the Cowan Avenger that won the Heatway Rally of NZ in 1976 was just an 1800 brazil.

I suspect they would have sold the 1800 to another rally team when they went to the 3.5 oldsmobile motor in.

I believe Dave Robinson's Avenger was powered by a 265 Hemi 6 cylinder, I remember it well from the OSCA days racing at Teretonga. I will see if I can dig up some info, have a lot of friends that race classics. Dave now races a suzuki powered Imp.

One of my mates was telling me there was a  265 Hemi powered Avenger racing in the OSCA series.

I am very interested to hear more because my Charger has a 265 Hemi in it so I am quite partial to that engine.

Some of my mates I used to race with raced Imps. Fun little cars. One had a mid-mounted fiat twin cam and the other had a supercharger datsun engine it the rear.
