1972 Hillman Avenger Ex Phil Ornstein 2 door rally car For Sale

Asking Price $30,000

For those of you who don't know this car it has got a huge rally history in NZ. It was rallied by Phil Ornstein in the late 70's and early 80's including the Heatway Rally and Rally of New Zealand.

Following that Mike Courtney and his daughter Kirsten rallied it in the Targa, 6 full Targas, twice in the Targa Dash,  once in the Targa Tauranga and 3 Targa Rotorua.

It has a 2 litre brazil engine with factory close ratio gearbox, quick rack and LSD plus other period go faster bits from the factory. I don't need to tell you how rare factory rally parts are for an Avenger plus being a 2 door Avenger makes this a very rare car indeed.

Mike has just spent $10K on the engine rebuild so it is nice and fresh and ready to rally.

I would really love to see this car stay in New Zealand and continue it's rally career. I have been a big fan of this car for years and I am almost tempted to sell my Valiant Charger and buy it.

I know that this is a very long shot. Did Mike end up selling the ex-Phil Ornstein Avenger? The reason being I hope to be returning to NZ in the near future and is it my intention to return to historic rallying. I remember both Phil and his co-driver Rowan Morgan very well from the early days of international rallying in New Zealand. If it is still around I would love to buy it or indeed build an early model replica or a Chrysler Avenger replica similar to the one ran by Scott Baigent in the mid, to late 80's.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

cheers & hah yeah nah at moment the "sum" of all the bits are kind of the dilemma (mess) and equate to my perceived "Value"

where either : keep "all" & re-make my own 'Tiger' with enough spares on hand for 20 or so years of fun

or manage to 'Part out' and be patient enough to make the timing work out (this is well out of my hands I realise, and rather unrealistic, though ultimately I will probably have to realise "is the way")

yeah, there will be a cross-over point of no return, either I manage to sell the White "Club Car" (Really needs a re-shell OR some major engineering to resurrect thus the Spare Good BLUE Car) or "Red" GLS Road car & they kinda get priority with "spares"

so I do realise I am a "BIG tease" and / or giant "ID-10-T" at the same time hah

(and this is an 'Internet' Public forum : anyone with google might find the thread inc. seller / future Buyer <3 they will no doubt be shaking heads collectively)
