I'm currently in the process of recovering my dash, while I have it out I thought it would be a good chance to tidy up the instrument cluster and the dash fascia.

It's crazy how the brain sees something as normal until you notice it's not normal and then it sticks out like a sore thumb....

Maybe I'm a bit slow to pick up on this, but have you ever noticed the last number on both the rev counter and the speedo are flipped?
I guess this made sense to someone in the 70's, or maybe I'm just used to modern gauge's

JoKer

oh wow hah no never!

lol Made you look

Doozer

Haha highly likely, crazy times in the 70's...

JoKer

Like a Clock Makers Roman Numerals are different

eg 8 is VIII not IIX for balance & ease of manufacture

neat little quirk thank you for pointing that out aye hah

Doozer

Dash is all filled, sanded, sealed, filled , sanded and sealed again and ready to attempt the re-vinyl process....

JoKer

neat progress thank you for updating

Doozer

Nailed it in one... potentially learnt a couple of things for next time, but really hoping that doesn't come any time soon!!
All in all very happy with the result and the price!!
Now I just need to come up with a new fascia for the instrument cluster as mine has been absolutely butchered by a previous owner

JoKer

phwoar what did you do!

is that vacuum formed or paint?

Doozer

I was going to attempt vacuum forming but unfortunately I couldn't track down the hybrid plastic/vinyl which is quite thin that is used for that process. In hindsight though I wonder if that's why so many of these classic dashes cracked over time due to the fragility of the covering.

I got hold of some 4way stretch vinyl which looks like your typical vinyl but stretched on both planes, 1lt of F8 high heat contact adhesive and a whole lot of patience!!
The worst bit was where it dives in sharply on the left of where the heater vents come out, I think this maxed out the vinyls stretch capabilities and my patience.... God I love the unforgiving nature of contact adhesive... yeah right!!
Anyway vinyl and glue come to $180,  because the dash is slightly longer the the width of the vinyl I had to buy 2m which leaves enough to do it again.

JoKer

regardless that

is

awesome!
