What next?

So my Avenger is getting to its point in life where every part is starting to fail.. slowly. So I've decided that I'm going to buy a 'reliable' daily driver over summer to save on fuel and maintenance costs. My budget is around 5-6k, and I'm really picky about cars so good luck to me.

Furthermore, my second gear synchro (most likely) is in need of replacement as it likes to grind a lot, and more recently loves to pop out of second gear into neutral when I'm doing anything other than accelerating. A pain but it is what it is. Now, whats the cheapest fix. A rebuild, finding a second hand box (either auto or manual, I'm not bothered) or going 5 speed? I have plenty of time so nothing is a rush. The car will only sit in storage.

Any feedback and advice is much appreciated!

could.... buy Azza's avenger :P

and I've got this sitting at my back door which I'm hoping to not need soon so you're welcome to it (may need inspection / checking output does not spin by hand) the other 3 spare boxes I have are in cars on muddy ground

I also have a gearbox here, spins ok and internals look good. Just has the bell housing cut off.

Hmm this sounds promising. May be a case of getting it and then using the good parts from it and my current one to make a virtually new one. Might have to come down to Dannevirke one day to check it out!
