« on: April 27, 2016, 05:03:20 PM »
Big thanks to avenga for hooking me up with the Wormag's. Finally got them presentable enough to get some tyres and chuck them on! Next thing is wheel nuts; anyone know what will look good and be safe enough?

Cheers

"Nice wheels" for mag nuts : or you local tyre shop, they get them from them / same place, or a local scrappie, mine keeps all the mag nuts off cars that comes thru

General update/check-in!

I've moved! I now live in a Student Hostel in our very fine capital city of Wellington! But the mighty Avenger is staying in Hawke's Bay.. for now. I now qualify as a 'poor student', so hit me up with the deals of the century. I'll be back in Hawke's Bay this weekend, and there's a few parts I need to get rid of ("taking up too much space in the shed" apparently). I can't remember exactly what's there, my previous posts may shed some light to that. But from memory there are:

Side glass - numerous
Plenty of windshields and rear windscreens
A Haynes Manual for a Hunter
One 4 dial gauge cluster (seen better days)
A 1500 TC Crankshaft and flywheel

Think that's it for now. I'm happy to basically give them away (just pay postage). Not sure on transporting the glass though.

Aaaand while writing this I just experienced an earthquake. Joys of Wellington.

Today, in the middle of Napier, I lost number 5 and 6 of the diagram below (apologies if the orientation of the photo is off). The catastrophe resulted in a mob of strangers grouping together to help push the car around the corner. The adjuster nut is a fairly decent size, how hard will it be to find a replacement? Is there any point even finding an adjuster nut when I could just use a series of standard nuts, albeit slightly more difficult to adjust? I managed to get home by just using a spare 1/4" nut (not even a locknut) and minimal clutch usage. After going to 4 shops, none of them stocked 1/4" UNF nuts, but all recommended one place B & H Trade Supplies (Fast Trade) Hastings, which happened to be closed at the time, but is my first port of call in the morning.

And in other news, rego is getting cheaper every year!

See if you can track down a 1/4 unf coupler nut, they're normally 5-6 times longer than a standard nut and will help distribute the force along the thread, a standard nut will be fine for a while but may work loose as the thread stretches. As for the larger diameter i believe thats just for adjustment by hand as its easier to grab

Fixed for now. Used a series of nuts and a locknut as they didn't stock the coupler nut, no worries though. Still have to adjust it a bit more as it feels slightly different. If anyone is after cheap nuts as such, check out http://www.bhdl.co.nz/category/Nuts-And-Washers/936.aspx - they stock a lot of everything. Car needs a warrant within the next few days but 'should' pass with flying colours.. touch wood.

Those wheels do look nice on your Avenger. Good to see they are getting some use.

So I don't know how to embed videos on this forum, even though university taught me HTML CSS, and a bit of Java. Anyway, follow these links for today's goodness. I'll let the videos explain.

Fresh WOF feels again! Been without since February (don't worry it's been in storage). 2 inch straight through with single coby at rear was deemed too loud by the authorities resulting in a failed wof at the start of the year. Had another coby fitted in the middle today that was plugged so brought the noise down to a decent 88dB - suitable for a wof. Took reg off hold now it's time to give it a decent run before I head back to Wellington!

Nice! & you know you don't need to put 'classics' on hold aye, they get 2 years before they 'drop off' & rego isnt 'continuous'

though that's not a bad habit to get into didn't cost you anything to put on hold anyway :P
