Fizz has a 1975 hillman Avenger, running a 1500 with standard carb set-up i think.

Its off the road atm ae, hes doing both engine and panel work on it, plus things needed for a wof.

1500 in a '75? They got the 1600 in the factory! Well I've four with minor cracking and one without.

I have a 1500 in my '75. All the cool cats are running 1500's now!!

My 1500 is from a '73 Alpine.

oldschool

Doesn't a standard 1500 Alpine produce less power (even with the S head) than a standard 1600 Alpine?
I read somewhere that the 1500 Alpine is good for 98mph, while the 1600 Alpine will do the magic 100mph?

blekkja

1500 has more low down power or something though? Pass. I've a 1500 in mine because I had a spare one knocking about when my 1700 munched itself up and have never gotten around to changing it.
Chill Datto, bro!

Yup, 1500 has a shorter stroke so more low down power. With the mods I have done to mine I knew top end wouldn't be a problem but I was worried about my low down power.

So yeah 1500 all the way! I run pretty much the same size piston as a 1600 now, just with a shorter stroke.

So yes the 1600 would have been slightly more powerful at top end it would have been slower down low and in a street car I would rather a couple of extra horsepower at 3,000RPM than a couple extra at 7,000RPM, I don't do much of my driving at 98mph  :P
