No no thats not an Avenger.
''..take it up to 10 acre field and fill it with straw..''
Yes, and kerosene. Would you like a bottle of Whiskey and a Cigar Worzel?

haha wiki says the series was later filmed in NZ!

That's a lot of TV time for an Avenger in the 1970's...and it wasn't pranged either!
Chrysler could have used the show to sell them...as recommended by a Scarecrow!
Going by the badging it's a 1973 1250 or 1500 wagon....maybe a 1500 to handle the extra drag caused by the appendage on the roof...LMAO

Paddy75

Ahh right enough, its a blue-badge pre Oct73 1250/1500 I couldn't see if the grille badge was round or square and by the sound of the starter its a bendix drive reel.
Hmm some of that carburettor potion the Crowman had was some job! There have been a few times I would have liked to batter the Stromberg with a shifter spanner too.
Must HDMI that into the TV in the sitting room and see what the nephew thinks of the show.

I was at a local vintage show yesterday and there were a lot of Rootes Group cars, Humber Hawk, couple of Singer Gazelles, Vogues (the expensive SuperMinx) a lovely wee Hillman Imp, Minx and a convertible SuperMinx. The SuperMinx got a lot of attention ''..that yoke needs an 8-track player with Jim Reeves or Patsy Cline..''

You could see that the old Hillmans and Singers were a fair bit ahead of a BMC or Ford of the time and there was a guy with his Landcrab, a Wolsley Six (the Allegro engine with two more pots) who has several of them - yes he was insane!
Another lad had a Metro (laughter) and the 1100/1300's were more loved so it was not all ridicule for the BMC/Leyland camp. There was a Maxi for sale and it being an automatic I'd guess a lot of people would shudder at the thought of what will go wrong with that!

The Avenger got a lot of happy comments again I heard ''...they were a good driving car..'' as I said before, just how, why and WTF how come so many Marinas were sold? Was a gun used or something?
I identified a set of Avenger wagon tail lights for a guy with a parts stall and a strip Avenger speedo which he thought was for some type of Vauxhall.

A few MK2 Escorts, hey there were fun to drive even though the owners tend to have the same personality - none. There was a MK1 Granada and boy but were they a big cart!

Funnily enough the Avenger and a 2-door Viva got more looks than a Bentley! I'm kinda getting intrested in Imps the man with the green one said ''..you get 50mpg on a bad day out of it..'' and they look like a lot of fun to drive. Anyhow one old car is more than enough for now folks!

Its a wonder why Top-Gear haven't copped-on to that clip. The driver goes over the Dukes of Hazard yump slow then after feeling the Avenger landing on all-fours right goes at it harder. Yep, the very car for Irish driving.
The General Lee-boy.
Thats a great clip and Dan Findy has the very yoke...
Dan! Your 1500 DL is, and could be, a legend. Go for it lad! There is that reason the Avenger became so popular in Ireland (N&S) at the time - then made in Dublin too - Garda car! The shade of blue on your 1970 is like the fuzz wagons!

Here is the C&T road test of the Cricket GT that was on youtube.

The word 'sneering gobshite' comes to mind. What a pity the Yankees didn't get the 1600 with the twindownpipes - during the oil crisis! The Japs just took 1/3rd of the N.American market overnight!

That was a "Cheater" car imported and converted for r+d and reviews such as this; notice the stuck on side reflectors, Canadian Colt Spec Cricket emblems. This car had the Tiger wheels, wing and stripes along with the hood bulge. (and loud exhaust)
'73 is the only year of the huge bumper protectors, and those were tacked on as well.
I just dug up my Dealers sale Pack; I need to unstick the pages and I will scan and post them here
