QuotePaddy Hanna When I woked in England I did some work on an Alpine Tiger, 289 V8 factory fitted. Tons of grunt but really hard to work on Had rack and pinion steering but the tie rods had a bend in them which meant you had to drop the rod ends of the spindles to adjust the wheel alignment. Took a while.

this from a guy who has my mates ol racecar

Yeah Sunbeam Tigers were a Sunbeam Alpine with a V8 from factory. They made them from 1964-1967

Nothing to do with Avengers, just good old Rootes group name sharing.

This is a V8 Sunbeam Alpine.

Oh I see the Chrysler 180 was still sold under the Talbot banner. Here you see the big problem Chrysler UK had. Too many cars with little or no parts interchange between them. Simca based stuff (Alpine, Tagora - 4dr Alpine, Horizon) were far from the Rootes based cars and within that stable there was no interchange between the Imp, Avenger and Hunter, apart from hubcaps and inside door lock buttons!

Of course in Ford there were a lot of interchange between Escorts, Cortinas and Zodiacs/Consuls/Granadas.

Whats a real crime is the way Peugeot just dumped the Avenger & Sunbeam, even the parts inventory!

I'm getting tired of 'Emma Peel' Avengers jokes, next time I hear that grrrrr!

Come to think of it, the Cricket had round headlights and a strip dashboard.

'not for release untill Nov 18th 1970' fixed quarter glass on that one and the GT hubcaps.

Yeh they rushed to the Yankee market too soon with the Cricket. If the Americans got the twin exhaust downpiped 1600 and then the oil crisis! I believe the dealers killed the Cricket because they could make more money selling Mitsi's.
In a magazine I have 'Avenger 24,000 mile test' there is a paragraph about an American in England ''..with a touch of the Caddilacs about him..'' where he raves about the Avenger being ''..the sweetest driving little car..chirpy handeling..''

I guess thats how the Avenger got named the Cricket for the states.
If they called it the Avenger in America the 'big' name would have got laughed at for that size of car.

Chrysler REALLY dropped the ball with the Cricket! Sure the engines were designed to meet the California 1970 emmissions standards without the need for an air-pump. So we are left with one drawback on the Avenger, the engines have no squish which dropps the power and worsens the consumption a bit.

That's a quick Dodge Omni/Talbot Horizon...the replacement for the Avenger based Sunbeam...looks to have Avenger lights...lol
Had to laugh reading Wiki on them...they could go 130 mph, but didn't get a new speedo...just a label stuck to the bottom of the standard one increasing the numbers to 135 mph...go penny-pinching Chrylser...haha
Must be a collectible car now??!!
