QuoteThis Chrysler Sunbeam is the very car Colin McRae used to make his rallying debut.
It must be.
It must be because, when his parents Jim and Margaret went away on holiday in September 1985, Colin – then a month past his 17th birthday – definitely didn’t mention anything about doing the Kames Stages in a Chrysler Avenger while they were away…
So, the Sunbeam was actually the car Colin used for his second ever rally. And for a good few thereafter.

I am trying to get my head around the Avenger in Brazil, production from 1971 to 1981 when the Dodge Polara production was stopped when Chrysler pulled out of Brazil.
Some Dodge Polara cars were also sold In Portugal.
The engine was a 1800cc and Des Odell had some blocks brought over and he fitted a longer stroke crankshaft to take it up to 2 ltr, but they were only sold for rallying, but that stopped when the Lotus Sunbeam was launched.
I built my rally car in 1976 and sold it in 1978. I was a friend of Allan Conoly who rallied the first BRM I think in 1978, but never heard of a 1.8 ltr or 2 ltr rally engine.
So if they were around in the UK does anyone have any engine parts, I have a Brazilian head buy now I don?t know if it came off a 1.8 or 2 ltr.
Thoughts anyone

They were taller blocks with a longer stroke. All 1800 to start with were made just shy of 2 litre with 90mm bore.

I'm same theory as Niall Keane and its info taken from a magazine article titled "avenger brm born under a bad sign"
the increased cc was done by boring to 90mm
1800 was achieved by the longer crank and taller block to compensate for brazils poor quality fuel hence their 1800 only giving same power as our 1600 ....
But then wernt reliable as a 2ltr brm due to longer stroke not liking the high rpm and throwing conrods out
If this was so 🤔🤔
How are the new breed of brm engines not throwing rods ?

Richard Troop the 2.0 BRM engines around competing at the moment are jondel built and are very different including there Brazilians 8v and share little internally to the standard Brazilian and also D.A.D/grp2 that I have.
