Christopher A's positive reply :

QuoteDear Jared It worked a treat!

The Land Rover ignition switch needed to be filed a little bit to make it fit but apart from that - no problems.
Thanks for your help

Best Regards Chris

Now I do not know if he had the "Early Round" Arrangement or the "Later Rectangle" layout of Plugs

(I learnt about these after starting the thread)

So use that info as you may

Some will note in my Bucket there was only 1x Round & if it works : it is spoken for sorry

Technical / Ignition Switch Chat (the Elec...

I've had a couple of people ask me about these now (1x from Sweden)

Part #14

and it doesn't help I have a bucket of 15x Ignitions (9x with Keys) from Ron's collection

all 40 - 50 years old now

on the Avenger Groups we've had mention the Land Rover Defender part LOOKS very same

can anyone confirm?

Mate had a chat to Graeme (avengerparts on these forums) and he mentions not interchangeable

couple of Links for "all the same part"
: near $70 drop shipped from Au

"Ignition Switch suitable for Land Rover 90 110 130 Petrol Diesel 1987"

https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/car-parts-accessories/landrover/listing/5275020966

or NZ$40 + shipping Uk

"Land Rover Defender 110 PRC8230 Switch Ignition NEW"

www.ebay.com/itm/254887604047

one of those should fit - but might not' kind of deals

I'm waiting for Christopher to confirm if he fixed it or not with my suggestions

I really did feal 'mean' not wanting to ship to Sweden an un-guaranteed 2nd hand part when it looks like the new part will give piece of mind

Technical / Re: Auto to manual
Last post by JoKer - April 12, 2025, 08:36:41 AM
yep no change in architecture across the motor range as far as I know (eg I put a 1600 in a 1300 Manual car ; no issues)

in NZ you may get a wof fail & technically will need a cert (once you touch or mod the brake Pedal = virm fail)

"yes" it's been done & passed before multiple times & you'll be hard pressed for anyone to be able to tell the difference or that there is any indication is shouldn't be Manual <3

Hi guys I've pulled the 1600 and auto box out of my avenger and put a 1500 with a 4spd in im regretting this now and wondering if the 4speed and the clutch will bolt up to the 1600.

Cheers, James

Technical / Rocker cover seal options
Last post by JoKer - March 18, 2025, 10:01:04 AM
FYI for no reason this came up in my TM 'alerts' for $69 (nice)

"Hillman Avenger Permaseal Rocker Cover Gasket

that's 40 years or older aka "Vintage" (and COf's for Private Motorhomes if that's your bag)

Important direct link to the NZTA feedback form to have your say : https://www.nzta.govt.nz/about-us/public-consultation-hub/current-consultations/land-transport-rule-vehicle-standards-compliance-amendment-2025-consultation/

QuoteConsultation has opened on reducing the frequency of safety inspections for vintage cars, vintage motorbikes and motorhomes.
The proposal would see WoF checks for vintage and veteran vehicles over 40 years old change from every six months to every 12 months, and see CoF checks for privately owned heavy motorhomes also change by the same time period.

Transport Minister Chris Bishop has said the change will strike the right balance between safety and over-compliance.
Earlier this month, 1News reported the change would impact 128,000 vehicles and 39,000 motorhomes.
In 2014, the law changed so people who owned cars made in 2000 or subsequent years only had to get them warranted once per year. Older cars continued to have to be warranted twice a year
