Title: BRM 16V
Post by: Growler on January 19, 2016, 01:51:11 PM
Wow...it seams someone in England has purchased the patterns to make the aluminium castings for each component. He paid around $45,000NZD for the rights to re-manufacture.
I'm actually surprised the patterns lasted so long!

There is nothing on pricing yet, but a mate in England suggested there is talk of supplying full race engines only at $40,000 - $50,000 NZD each. This will be the 1600 block with twin cam head, with a 81mm stroke using Ford wide journal conrods, which brings it up to 2.0 litres. Estimated power is 260hp and 180Nm of torque. (With better spec?d cams they may get to 280hp). I think they are getting around 320hp in the Ford BDA?s over here.
That's way too expensive for me...but might be interested if they sell the bare castings...

Whats the pros and cons of this over a lotus sunbeam motor? I love the sound of a pushrod motor so if I had the funds I think I'd build up a motor the conventional way, but if I has going to do a swap then the 2.2 would be number one choice. (Or a 265 because fuck corners)

Just an update on this: I have contacted the company doing this and they are currently repairing/modifying the patterns for casting. They should have prices etc later in the year.
Interesting talking to them. The have brand new 1600 engine blocks for sale, and can offer the 8v head in aluminum!
Currently in testing they are getting around 220hp - 230hp from the BRM head...but there is more to come.
Send me a PM if you are interested in getting these/parts etc, and I can update you as it progresses.
