Hi all, curious as to what clutch and release bearing setup is used in the five speed conversion with the type 9. I've been doing some work on mine again and am now needing to sort the pivot point.
You use an Avenger clutch, release bearing, fork and cable...will need to make a gearbox spacer, fit a pivot, cut a slot for the fork and make a cable retainer if you're using an auto bell housing.
I've fabricated my own bellhousing, so it's just the pivot point I'll need. How much power is the orignal clutch good for? And are there any aftermarket heavy duty clutches that will fit them?
Can't use your existing pivot point? The Avenger uses the same 190mm pressure plate as an Escort 1600 OHV along with a 23 spline 190mm clutch plate..lots of Escort race/rally ones available searching online.
Oh wow, some good info on the clutch there. I'll just make the pivot the same as the original then.

Here's a few pics as to where I'm at.
It looks like the gear linkage hasn't been shortened? It needs to be about 75mm shorter to line up with the gear lever tunnel..otherwise the gear lever hits the handbrake!

ahh ok I think i got it, cut down a Manuel box?
Yep, cut down welded it, then I line bored the spigot diameter to suit the Sierra box. Then marked out the holes. Easy as to do and cost me nothing. Other than $50 for an old gearbox.
And no, still have not shortened the linkage yet. Still thinking of a better way to do it. not keen on cutting and welding it as it would distort the seal and bearing journals.
Here's an update on where I'm at with the selector. (http://i.imgur.com/96f1ggE.webp) (http://i.imgur.com/zA9LwpG.webp)

Clitch slips badly, try a Ford 8.5 inch clutch..... Better but still slips so Fit 2003 SAAB 9.3 Aero clutch (1" 23 splines same as Avenger) that will take 300hp... Sorted

Nice! I have a type 9 gearbox on my Avenger but the stock clutch is fine with my 88HP :)
BTW, welcome to the forum.
