Still looking for the right crank so....... find something else to do, lets cut up a gearbox. Drag 1 sierra box out into daylight & take to it with a hacksaw.
Off now to find someone to weld it back together.
hah neat! choppy chop cut cut
Lol, bits been dropped off, now just have to wait for the call when its done- probably after easter cos they buzy sorting racecars etc.
Thought i might track fuel use before & after box swap- a week of town/country running round netted @ 28 mpg :-\.
Might have to fix the bike again, lol
I saw quite a drop in fuel usage when I swapped over to my Sierra gearbox.
I dropped from 13 L/100KM to 11 L/100KM, mind you I have a very thirsty dual dellorto setup. I find that I only use 5th when I am on the motorways or out in the country, I don't really get up in to 5th until I am over 80KM.
Cruised up to hillybilly hell-(Gore) to vintage car swapmeet, nothing i wanted this year, got 39mpg goin up at an indicated 60 mph (@ 95 kmh)-dry calm morning, coming back on a wee tiki tour was 33mpg.
Surprised it could still do that well considering its overall health
That's pretty good at 60mph..have you got a 3.7 diff fitted?!
Dunno, did cheat a bit on tyre pressures @ 34 front & @ 28 back & its fairly flat up to Gore with hardly any traffic this morning
Bigger surprise today, just been round the block yesterday @ 324 miles (@500ks) Invers, Alex, Cromwell, Queenstown & back to Invercargill, 3 up, 1 tank - 34.2mpg, (8.3L/100k ?) without trying too hard either, silly thing is i know by ditching the alloys for the skinny standard wheels is worth a 1.5 mpg improvement.
How skinny? 155? I don't think I could handle that. No matter the fuel saving.
weight also, tho yea 185's min for me
you can also drive different with passengers, i know i do :P
Passengers were lightweight lol. 165's were old wheels, 155's belong on 850 minis,
currently on 185's a good alround compromise between economy v's traction/grip- theres some nice windy roads down here, lol.
I run 175/185. Like the little bit smaller size on the front to make the steering feel a bit better.
Increasing the tyre pressures improves the fuel economy, steering weight and tyre life too...40 psi front 35 psi rear works well I've found.
Got a call- box ready & all glued back together, now to remember how i took it to bits + make an end plate coz box didn't have 1 when i got it
