Post by: Bricstar on August 28, 2015, 07:06:44 PM
Hey  wanting to fill up my gearbox with new oil but I'm unsure of what to use? Is it the same 15w I put in my engine or something different. Pleas help!! :)

Just use engine oil...SF to SJ spec. Can't use newer spec oils in Avenger engines and gearboxes as they're made for modern cars.

I think I run my 1500 on 15w40... Is that alright to use? I looked it up and it says it boils take about 1.7 litres of the stuff :/

Hi Ross, is the reason for not being able to use modern oil something to do with the modern oil attacks the brass syncro rings, or is it because it is to thin?

Not too thin Steve, it's because modern oil is more slippery and the synchros might not work so well. They also removed some of the additives which benefitted older engines.

I've never put oil in gearbox but would assume gear oil better than engine oil?

plus I love the smell of Diff oil, you just cant wash it off your hands

cool well thanks for that one, i have recently had a lot of problems with my brakes too. and it looks quite costly getting the master cilynder and brake booster reconditioned so i wanted to ask if you boys knew (or happened to have any spares...?)
thanks in advance
