I picked up this very cool 13" Spingalex dished wheel. I purchased the wheel sometime back but could never find a boss to fit an Avenger. Turns out they are the same as a MK1 Escort so not difficult to find. I think its a vast improvement over the stock original
Next week the car goes in to have custom S/S exhaust system fitted and original Rostyles are being sent off for banding.
The 1.75" Powerflow s/s exhaust is now fitted. Noticed a difference in power and response on the throttle immediately.
Next week I should get the wheels back refurbished from the forwarder and then its on to fiiting some of the other goodies I have acquired.
Mate, very good looking steering wheel, big like :)
I just picked up the set of Rostyles from the Refurbishers. I really lucked-in with this set as they are the 5.5J versions from a Cortina 1600E with the chrome centres and deep dish. I did a trade with a set of Dunlop D1's with a guy from another part of the country so was only expecting a standard steel set with the normal O/S
Have now dropped them off at the tyre dealer where they are being shod with a set of 185x 13 Toyo R888 Proxes. Will post more pics once fitted to the car and tracking done.
Now got around to fitting the flamethrower electronic ignition and coil. Hoping to coax a few extra HP?
lol massiv
Got car back from paint shop last week, now with sweet matt black bonnet and back panel.

Back
Also got the Toyo R888 track tyres fitted. Wasn't sure about them at first but they sure are sticky and I think they work well with the dished Rostyles.
Man. That looks awesome. Love the black bonnet and the R888's
Today she's back in the shop having 2" 4-2-1 Ashley Manifold fitted ready for bike carb conversion at the end of the month. Told by Bogg Bros who carry out the conversions that it could be a first for an Avenger?
Bad news about the manifold. Fitted it to the car and it smoked like hell and burned most of the black paint off the manifold in minutes! It now looks terrible!
When I called the company who supplied it I couldn't believe when they told me the coating was just cosmetic and not a heat resistant coating? Does not make sense to me...Why bother to coat it at all, if its not in a heat resistant coating? Anyway it looked terrible with half the coating burned away so have bitten the bullet and sent it off for ceramic coating http://www.zircotec.com/page/home/1 (http://www.zircotec.com/page/home/1) very expensive but I figure it will be worth it when done and be even better than a stainless manifold which I did think about getting in the beginning. I will post pics when I get it back next week.
golly gosh
weird, did you order it or did they? refund?
High Performance Coatings are the norm here in nz (high temp rating
It was an Ashley competition manifold so straight off the shelf. If you look on the forums there are a lot of mixed reviews and opinions about Ashley products, but at the end of the day they are just a no-frills mild steel after-market upgrade. For the money the manifold itself is quite good value for money, but I just cant understand why they would apply a normal paint coating to their manifolds knowing that it will simply burn away? In fact it would have been better if they didn't paint it at all.
Anyway Zirotech who are doing the ceramic coating for me guarantee it so I shouldn't have to worry about it in future and obviously there will be an heat transfer/reduction advantage. Only problem is the ceramic coating costs almost as much as the manifold itself.
A competition one is just painted to prevent rusting while on the shelf, as the appearance doesn't matter for racing use.
Show car ones are treated with a High Performance Coating (HPC) like Richard's 1975 Avenger has.
There's no paint that will withstand exhaust manifold temperatures as they can get red hot!
Even chrome plating can't handle it, which is why motorbike exhaust pipes are double walled.
The inner wall takes most of the heat with the chrome plated outer wall running much cooler.
You can always tell cheapy single wall replacement pipes because the chrome goes blue from the heat.
Here is the 2.5 Avenger Quick Rack complete with shiny NOS track control arms, ready to go back onto car. I was going to paint it in satin black but it came up so well after I went over it with a wire brush that I decided to keep it raw.
I also invested in one of the alloy competition mounting brackets like the one Steve fitted to his car.
If anyone is interested in the Quick Rack conversions then I can supply the contact details of the guy who does them. He also does them in kit form so shipping to NZ may not be too expensive?
For what is that piece of aluminum?? Which is its function ??

Its a heavy duty competition bracket for the steering rack. It just beef up the strength of the fixing of the s/rack to the cross member.
Manifold is back on the car and she is now off to Yorkshire for Bike Carb conversion. There is too much salt on the roads here right now so she going up on a trailer. Hope to have car back after the works done in about 3-weeks. Looking forward to seeing how she performs after the conversion?
I finally have the car back from the shop with the bike carb conversion fitted. I am really pleased with it and how it performs. Its a lot quicker and a lot more responsive on the throttle, but still very driveable. The conversion was carried out by Bogg Brothers who pioneered and specialise in these conversions. They told me it was the first Avenger they have ever done and also said it was one of the most straightforward they had carried out. The throttle and choke cables matched straight up so was able to leave those in situ without having to change them.
Here is a few pics of the set-up.
