Has anyone had any problems with a loud squeaky grinding noise when they let the clutch out, particularly in the lower gears?
It's happened before and we thought it was from when we cleaned the gearbox out we didn't have enough lubrication in the thrust bearing so we took it out, greased it up and it went sweet. But today it started making that terrible noise again. Could it be because of the rain? it's the first time it's been this wet in a while. And what would be a permanent fix? It'll be a pain greasing it up again then having the same problem.
??? ??? ???
Sounds like you need a new release bearing as they're sealed from new and aren't designed to be re-greased. A worn one loses its grease and any grease forced into it would fly out again, repeating the problem.
That would explain it. Wish we had just ordered a new one then rather then trying to fix it . Time to drop the gear box AGAIN.
Thanks for the help i'll let you know how it goes
Any idea where i can get a new one?
Try sending a PM to "Avengerparts" he imports a lot of Rootes Group stuff, I get a some of my hard to find little bits off him.
I'm sure I saw one somewhere for like $10. But i can't find it >:(
It's still a common clutch and places like Repco, Partmaster or Auto Clutch Ltd may have the bearing listed in their parts catalogues?
Got one off Avengerparts for $14.80 :D
Thanks for the help
Hey while youv'e got your gearbox out lubricate the crankshaft input shaft needle roller bearing, can give same symptom and hard gearchange. The thrust bearings are easy to regrease (done heaps of them) You drill a small hole in the back to take a grease gun pointy nipple, pump grease in rotating bearing at same time, until it comes out front, cover hole with silicone. Only way to do it..
