I will come along.

I went to thier website and saw one of my mates cars. He was up here on sunday, there was 3 car shows in Auckland so he came up and I drove him around all the shows, he said he has seen your car around. one of my other mates said he works across the road from where you work. Small world aye.

It says it is open to American cars and hot rods so I might see if I can get some of my MoPar buddies to come along also.

Here is my mates car from that website, there is a Valiant Charger parked behind him so I guess both my cars would fit in but I will bring my Avenger.

OMGOSH! i idolise that car! where does ur mate work? the car club is pretty cool coz they dont really expect cars to be up to show spec, which is lucky for me!

Not sure where he works exactly but I was talking to him about the Avenger forum and I asked if he knew any down his way and he said "there's one that parks by work ,a chick owns it who works at Pak'n'save here in hastings it has pumped out guards to fit big rubbers"

Then my mate with that blue Valiant was telling me about your car also.

Your car must be pretty well known down there because all my mates down there have seen your car.

yeah well thyre not that common around here lol plus i daily drive it and park it on a main-ish road. people will ask me what i drive and i just say "avenger" and if they dont know what it is i just say " the old school blue car with the blue wheels" and all of a sudden they know lol also maybe they have seen me pushing it/ getting under the bonnet on occasion? lol

It must stand out well, I really want to see how you have done the wheels because both my mates commented on the wheels and the big tyres.

When I was down in Napier in my Avenger in November I saw a brown Avenger drive past, I beeped and waved like a nutter and the person driving it must have thought I was crazy. My mates down there said they have seen another Avenger in the hastings area. I forget the discription of it.

o ok. i know there used to be an orange one but it got stolen, ive only seen another brown one that an old lady drives. i know of a couple in napier and one in waipawa. it does stand out i guess coz its a pretty distinctive blue and generally everyone around here puts modgies on old cars, i just decided to be different

It's good to have a car that stands out. You have done a great job with your Avenger.

It was an old lady driving the brown one I saw in Napier so it is probably the same car.

Looks like fun JoKer. I really wish I had my race car ready to go and I had enough guts to give gravel a go. I am such a wuss only racing on tarmac.

BTW the site says 12-13th March, not 14/15th

im not sure what the orange one was, ill ask my mate when i see her next coz it was her boyfriends that got stolen. its quite easy to lose touch with avengers around the bay, especially since theres harldly any!

Post by: hunted on February 18, 2011, 10:07:49 AM
was thinking saturday night would make more sense....will see what itl cost me to stay the night somewhere. havnt been to hastings in years so might make a day out of the drive, woudl be ashit load nicer then heading up at the crack of dawn on sunday.

whats the deal with putting cars int he show? just rock up and pay?

Cool. Saturday is much better than early morning. I am cruising down on Saturday also so I was thinking we should all meet up in Hastings some time on Saturday afternoon and go for a bit of an Avenger cruise around Hastings etc. I'm sure one of the locals can come up with a nice scenic route for a drive.

We had our MoPar annual meeting down there last year and we went for a cool run out through the back roads, I still have the map. I will see if I can organise something with the locals closer to the event.

On the day I think we should all meet up first and go in as a group so we can all park together. I am staying with some of my MoPar mates so I might see if they want to join us in the convoy to the show. but yeah it is just rock up and pay.

Sounds like it will be a fun weekend full of Avenger madness!

its only $5 to put a car in, im not sure if i already mentioned that
i think a drive around ahuriri and along marine parade should also be a part of the cruise

right, in order to make sure I come to this im going to book somewhere to stay for the saturday night.

worth booking in at the same place as others? could go out to the pub Saturday night etc. I imagine the place will be pretty busy so will pay to book asap

I will be staying with friends, I will PM you some details of the places my Hastings MoPar mates recommended.

I am planning a little cruise followed by a casual diner and drinks somewhere.

this is the cruising route I was thinking. It's about 65KM through the back roads, stopping of along the way for some sweet Avenger photos.

that route looks quite good

Post by: avenga on March 02, 2011, 09:18:35 PM
Excellent! So we will meet at Purfume Point which is just as you come in to Napier from the north.

Now we just need to figure out out a time. I am leaving from Auckland and Hunted is leaving from Wellington which is a 5 hour trip for me and a 4 hour trip for Hunted.

How about if we meet at Purfume Point at about 3ish, have good chat about Avengers and get to know each other then at about 4-4:30 leave for our cruise which should take us about 1.5-2 hours then dinner at around 6-6:30ish?

Any comments or ideas let me know.

I am not sure how much time I will have for cleaning. It might be a friday night thing. I just pulled out the electronic distributor out of my other Avenger and want to get the MSD and carb jets installed before the trip.

ah good luck with that, hopefully its running in time haha
Title: Re: hawkes bay event
Post by: avenga on March 08, 2011, 05:11:51 PM
It should be fine. If it is looking doubtful I will just run it with the old points. I just figured it would be a good chance to see how it effects my economy on a long trip because last time I took the Avenger down to Hastings it was using about 13L/100KM. It is about 430KM from my place to Hastings so with the cruise and return trip it would be close to 1000KM and at 13L/100KM that would be approx 130 litres of petrol. I run 98 so that is like at least $2.10 a litre so that is $270 odd for gas.

I used to be able to get 7L/100KM on my old crap 1500 so the same trip would have only cost about $150 in gas. So anything I can do to save gas is best done before I do a long trip.

It will be interesting to see if I get any better economy than last trip.

Cool. Just talked to the mechanic. It is all serviced and ready to go and running on the MSD. They had to use my old points distributor because my electronic one was stuffed so I am still looking for a new distributor.

He only just got the jets etc for the carbs now so instead of rushing to get those in for the weekend I will leave them till when I get back after the weekend.

I will be picking the car up in the afternoon and giving it a wash etc already for tomorrow. YAY!!

Title: Re: hawkes bay event
Post by: avenga on March 11, 2011, 09:00:01 PM
Is that really likely to happen? is that from the earthquake in China? I could bring floaties for the Avenger.

I will let you pick a plan B meeting point if you like.

Post by: hunted on March 11, 2011, 09:14:10 PM
there wont be a tsunami....lol. there is currently a tsunami advisory, so if we are lucky we might get to see a 10cm wave haha.

perfume point sounds like asweet place, ill be there about 230 all going to plan
Title: Re: hawkes bay event
Post by: avenga on March 11, 2011, 09:20:06 PM
Sweet. I'll pack the floaties just in case  ;D

We had one of those on the north shore but I heard the radio wrong. I heard that everyone was rushing down to the beach to see the one foot salami, I was thinking sweet because it was about lunchtime but then it turned out to be a tsunami not a salami and it was only like a small wave. So I was pretty gutted by that, but I went to Subway to get a foot long salami sub to make up for it.

haha thyve lifted the warnings but advise not to go sight seeing but thats too bad. last time there was a "tsunami" it was 4 cm swell.. i think it only has to be 3cm to be classified as a tsunami so we should be good
