Hey Guys
I'm am Mark From Malta and i have a 1970 avenger currently im beginning to dismantle it to begin the project. i am going to put a chevy 350 under the bonnet.i would like to ask you what type of upgraded brake and suspensions are out their to be able to handle it when it will be running
Wow, A 350 chev is a big engine for a small car.
Have a read of my brake conversion thread here http://www.avenger.co.nz/forum/index.php?topic=295.0
We use Volvo 4 pots plus BMW rotors, I have done this on my hot 1500, plus my race car and also Nikolai has done the same conversion on his 2.0L SR20DE powered Avenger.
As for suspension. I use a custom made strut in mine, using adjustable Koni shocks, custom race springs, adjustable camber plates and a strut brace.
That heavy V8 engine is downright dangerous in an Avenger, as the inner guards would need cutting to fit the exhaust, weakening the strut towers so much they'd probably break...turning the car into a death trap!
If you want that V8 burble Mark...please consider a Rover 3500...a safe tried and true conversion for race cars that makes an Avenger unbeatable!!
The Chevy 350 weighs over 600 lbs...twice the weight of the Rover V8, so the handling would be terrible too...!

I have to agree with Ross on this one. I have seen many Rover V8 powered Avenger rally/race cars and they work really well.
With the Avenger only weighing 860KG, the 350 chev would weigh around 1/3 of the entire weight of the stock Avenger. It would make it very nose heavy and would understeer like crazy.
hi mark
welcome to the forum,do you know brian farruga? he has some avengers to.and aldo ciantar, and brian ciantar?
as mentioned above go with the rover or even lexus v8 for less wieght.
brakes and suspension will be the easiest part of the modifacation.uprated shocks and springs are available from koni, bilstien, gaz etc brakes are available from ap,willwood, outlaw and the old reliable austin princess rear discs can be had of off mal stuart in the uk from a chrysler 180 plus calipers.
all easiley obtainable if you have the budget.
i once had all the bits collected to convert my 2 door avenger to v8 i was using a rover 3.9 and t5 cosworth gearbox using the tvr bellhousing the only problem i could see was the steering column fouling on the starter but easily overcome.
you need any contacts to get parts let us know oh and put up some photos in the gallery asap.
Depends what he is after, doesn't it? If he is planning to go down the quarter mile then big engine + small car is pretty tried and tested. Go for a 426 and be done with it! :)
hemi!
10x for the info i will check if they can fit and i will check for the other engines
but i love the sound of the 350

YEA BABY (its a bigger block than a 350 too
Welcome to the forum.
Wow!!! What a sleeper.
Great engine choice and an amazing job squeezing it into such a small engine bay. I also own a Chrysler Valiant Charger, it has the 265 Hemi but the 318 was also an available engine option. The engine bay on the Charger is massive compared to the Avenger so I could only imagine how hard to would be to shoehorn that big lump of steel in the front.
Is the car nose heavy at all? does it understeer? I know the Aussie Chargers went better with the Hemi 6 because the 318 caused it to understeer, they had uprated torsion bars but still didn't help much.
Feel free to start up a post in the "members gallery" section and tell us more about your Avenger, I would love the see more on how you did the conversion. Also feel free to start a post under the "introduce yourself" section.
Wow!!!! Any chance of some videos?
