Title: Is this the right window seal?
Post by: Stuie on February 22, 2012, 12:36:34 PM
Hi,
finally got enough money to get my roof painted. However, I will need new seals once they pull out the front and rear windows to paint the roof. i am looking at getting the new seals from Basis however i am not sure if the seals they have quoted me will fit.

http://www.basisnz.co.nz/product.pasp?categoryid=&productid=1180

I dont have a spare cross section of a seal to look at so I was hoping someone here would be able to help me out.

Is this the right seal for my avenger?

Thanks

Stu

Kiera got her rubber from Basis, said it was an Escort type, not a Truck?!

This guy in Aussie sells the rubbers...maybe the wagon rear window is a different length to the sedan?

Are you sure you need new rubbers...are they leaking Stu?
If not, no need to take them out.
When I checked your roof, they wasn't any rust under the rubbers, so it can be re-painted leaving the windows in...saving you about $500 by the time you pay for the rubbers, freight and fitting.

Does anybody know if those eBay ones even fit.

Only reason I ask is because they never sold avengers in Aussie and the didn't make avengers in 1966-70. He might be getting confused with a hunter or something.

Yeah but you always say yours sort of fit, and you told us the story of how it took some guy days to install your window.

I want something that fits properly. every other topic has always ended in "this should work" or "Try this one" I want to know from someone who has fitted them and they fit well.

I think Steve (kiwiflyer) used the Aussie rubbers in his son's Avenger no problem.
I'm getting new windscreen rubbers installed in my Super and Alpine tomorrow, one rubber is from Aussie and the other rubber came from Graeme (Avengerparts)
The rubbers are slightly different, Graeme's is a genuine part, while the Aussie one is generic I think.
Both are 4m long, will let you guys know how the fitting goes.

John came and fitted both rubbers today. The generic one was tight to fit, while the genuine one was a little larger, so I put that one in the Alpine to cover the vinyl roof better.
The cost was 1/2 of what other installers quoted me... :D
PM me if you'd like John's contact details. He lives in Whenuapai so is handy to the North Shore and the West for work.

The AA Windscreen Replacement service replaced mine for $99, if that helps.

I wouldn't recommend the generic windscreen rubbers from Aussie, they're a really tight fit, there's some other ones on e-Bay UK may be better....
