Title: Fuel Pumps
Post by: blekkja on February 09, 2012, 01:53:42 PM
So apparently there is more than one type.

They do seem much the same - reckon I can swap the levers (or internals) over?

The old one had quite a large gasket/spacer on it too - perhaps half an inch? The new one just came with a normal paper gasket.

Hmm, that could explain what happened to my fuel pump.

It cracked after 300km of driving.

I replaced it with an electric fuel pump which is a million times better.

Here are pictures

Yeah: I think I might have to go out and get an electric. I would rather have a manual one, though. Part of the reason I brought my first Avenger originally was because I wanted something with as little electrics as possible.

Manual ones are okay for road use...I suspect pulling 9000rpm on the race track munted it...!

Done. Managed to drive around the block without stalling which was nice. Will take it out for a bigger blat when traffic dies down a bit. Now we just have to start thinking about getting a WoF... Left rear window: y u no wind down?

Well done...ready for cruising again...the disadvantage is that now it will be using more petrol...lol
The L/R window didn't wind down on my Avenger too...the lever arm clamp had come off the bottom of the glass...a common problem.
Can happen if the window is wound down too quickly or the tracks are sticky.

Sigh. Or not. Next step is to flush out the lines.

haha, that was only my '75. it couldn't handle 7000rpm. I guess the 78hp was too much for it  :D

Probably the rpm...my Alpine red lines at 6000 and the gauge only goes to 7000...lol
For efficiency and weight saving, everything is going electric on road and race cars now, steering, fuel pumps, water pumps, brake boosters and many race cars are ditching the alternator too, so no more fan belts either. Just running a total loss electrical system, easy and reliable with the new Lithium batteries.

Hopefully it is just a gasket or something like that.

so far so good! there was sign of wear on the arm so not sure how long this will last, got a few more spares so not to stressed :P or will try & refurbish the old one or see how it works

noted they are a different design to the ones at the top of the page
