Title: Lighting problem
Post by: DanFindy on January 17, 2012, 07:36:33 AM
Lads my avenger is running a dynamo not alternator
When i start up the charging light goes out no problem,
When i turn on the lights the lights wont come on (well very dimly) and the charging light comes on and gets brighter if i rev it up
Even if i then turn the lights off they try to come on flickering lowly with the switch turned fully off,
Would i be right in saying the light switch itself could be at fault ?

Firstly: I don't think any NZ cars came out with Dynamos so I'm not sure how much help us lot can be. That being said I had this exact problem with my Alternator'd car a million years ago. I can't remember exactly what I did to fix it, but suspect it involved my friend the apprentice sparky hooking me up with a NOS Alternator.

Classic symptom of worn dynamo brushes...charging light goes out with little load on the dynamo and comes back on again when a bigger load is placed on it, as the brushes can't handle the extra amps.
