Post by: DanFindy on January 05, 2012, 10:37:57 AM
Lads due to argument what parts are similar/interchangable between an avenger and a hunter, obviously panels are not but on the mechanical side of things ???????

not a great deal, the headlights, some suspension bushes, wheels. I think some brake parts, my local wreckers has two hunters, a wagon & a sedan. personally i was wondering if the diffs were interchangeable???

I don't think much of anything on a Avenger is interchangable with a Hunter.

The hunter engine is a slant engine and I know they have a different manifold layout, so that rules out anything with the induction and exhaust except maybe the carb itself?

Internally the Hunter and Avenger engines couldn't be more different, the hunter is a long stroke slant engine and the Avenger is a short stroke straight engine so I can't imagine anything that would be the same.

maybe some bolt on bits like the starter, dizzy or alternator might by the same.

I know the Diff is all new with the Avenger.

I remember reading about all the weight reductions they did to get the Avenger so light and the diff was something they did a lot of work on to get lighter, thus why some people say the Avenger diff is weak.

Plus the hunter has leaf springs and the Avenger has coil and Semi trailing arms.

No major parts like engine, gearbox, diff, steering, suspension and interior are compatible. Minor parts like radiator, carby, distributor, alternator (not starter) front brakes, front wheel bearings, air filter, oil filter and wheels are compatible.
Windscreen, door and boot rubbers maybe compatible.

Just the rubbers, perhaps?

Hunter is just a rebodied Superminx essentially.

Have been told it's popular to bolt Avenger front cross members into Hunters...to get rack and pinion steering!
Apparently the Hunter has symmetrical steering where the inside wheel turns the same angle as the outside one, while the Avenger has asymmetrical steering where the inside wheel angle is greater to allow for the smaller turn radius = better handling.
