Title: What's it worth
Post by: AVENGR on December 02, 2011, 03:00:02 PM
UK Factory Hillman Avenger GLS,

Purple with painted silver roof. Twin headlight [alpine look] grill. Twin carb model, manual.
WOF fail rust drivers side floor. One long dent RH rear quarter. Minor surface rust.

Good chrome. Interior is ok, but passenger seat needs recovering or replacing, these are cloth seats, not vinyl.

Last run in 08, de-reg'.

Needs new starter motor as the current owners son in law tried to hot wire it, he wired it so the starter spun continuously and burned itself out. Wiring has been reset.

Currently in Papakura.

Thoughts??

fair call.

I'm thinking it's worth more as parts than as a whole.
Really is a shame, this car used to be pristine, it lived in Mangere Bridge.

Those UK GLS's are more common that I thought...here's a registered one going cheap on TradeMe...

The fact that it is de-registered is the killer.

Having re-registered a car before I know the expense and hassle involved. They are really tough on the car while re-registering it so it would cost more than it is worth to get it back on the road.

I agree that although it is a cool uk gls I think it's list of problems plus being dereged limits it's value to a parts car. I saw an alpine go for $600 last year and it sounded the same condition but the rego was on hold. So yeah $400 would sound pretty right for the current market.

Yeah, I would say those wheels are probably the most valuable part on the car. Pretty sweet.

The blue one has early '3 fuse' wiring so would have had a 1500 'S' head motor originally.
Might have been changed for a 1600 one by now, who knows?

is anyone looking for spares from this car. If it ain't rescued soon it's gonna die a death.

Show of interest may swing the vote that way.

List what you're after and I'll see what can be done.

Can you post photos? Interior/dash/engine-bay etc?

air filter housing.

wheels maybe. how hard/expensive would it be to get them dished?

looks a bit like my old 73 - how the vinyl doesn't go along the top of the boot lid like my alpines did. does it have over-riders? my biggest regret ever is not having the time to grab them of that car.
