so my windscreen was smashed today into smitetherines basicly. i had just enough time to take my sheepskins out b4 it caved it. this was a result of a truck flicking a rock at it. anyone have experience in having had one replaced? i just want to know how long i will be off the road and the car will be in the shop (is my only car). they said they have to hunt around for a windscreen and were opposed to me sourcing one of my own! thanks everyone!

I would say once they have the windscreen it should only take them a day or so to fit it. As long as they can find some rubber to fit.
I haven't had to replace a windscreen on an Avenger yet. I have pulled heaps out but never put one back in.
Let me know what they do about the rubbers because I am going to be taking my windows out and replacing the rubbers as part of my project I have going on ATM.
what, i have to get more rubbers? FML! they rekon im not allowed to get my own glass coz i has to be laminaed. fucking good luck to them! shoud know by monday what the deal is but thats a long time to wait when its your daily driver.

Use your old rubber if it's in good condition? They just scrap the bits of broken glass out of the groove.
We know S and S are dumbasses as Avengers never came out with laminated glass...find another windscreen repairer to fit a 2nd hand Avenger windscreen, doesn't affect your WOF at all.
i already knew they were dumbarses lool. i was gonna get new rubbers in feb anyway. i rescued my sheepskins before the glass completely caved in
Hey dude ive got 2 spare front screens if you want one, ive done them on vengers easy as, as long as your old rubber is not to rooted
my old rubber is a tiny bit rooted lol i was actually gonna have them done in feb! thanks aaron i will totally keep that in mind. thyre going to let me know on monday if they can get one in (but i doubt it), im just not sure if my insurance will cover their labour if im supplying my own windscreen but who cares really, i just want my car back!
i just rung the smith&smith hotline and asked about sourcing my own windscreen. apparantly its a grey area but basicly, my insurance MIGHT only cover the labour if i get my own glass, if im left waiting an "unreasonable" amount of time for smith&smith to get one. unreasonable to them is probably longer than my definition. ill let everyone know on monday how this pans out. they say theyll know monday but in my experience, they never keep to their deadlines
I think it all comes down to the insurance company. I know with Valiants a few of my mates have broken windows etc and basically if the insurance company can't find the part and you have a second hand part then they will buy the part off you at a fair market price.
Lets hope your insurance company is sweet with that because it is a win-win, you get the window done and they get to close the claim quickly instead of wasting time and money looking for a windscreen.

yup at the moment is not a case of if they get a windscreen, its when, which i cant be fukt with. but they wont let me take an unlaminated one in to get done, apparantly lots of people wont nowadays. so aaron, if they end up fucking me around too much, du u wana install it? lol ill pay u in beverages, is just that they wont even do it if i supply the glass, but should know more on monday (but probably not coz they are notorious for fucking me around)

yea smith&smith want it to be laminated and mu insurance company is willing to fork out the $3,000 so im prepared for wait for 2 more weeks to get my car back in order to milk it from the insurance company and get some shiny new glass. ive only been paying for glass insurance for 4 weeks and thyre prepared to take it off me so thats approx a $10 windscreen
just got the car back, was going to put up a picture but everyone can probably just guess what it looks like. looking forward to trying to get all the glass out of the car. theres a shit load between my seats and shit woooop

yea got a big clean crack running right through the middle of it. just walked to it after work and then rage lol. rung up smith&smith hotline, they lodged it with the nappier branch. got my letter in the mail the other day saying no more glass insurance for me, its effective from 9th dec. any one know if im allwed to just drive it around until the new one comes? it just runs straight through the middle
I think there is a limit on the size of the crack in the window, and your sound too big.

haha. I didn't read the "New glass" line so I was looking at the first photo thinking "Man I really can't see the crack, must be pretty small" then I scrolled down, now I feel a little stupid.
I would say that would be installation error, either they have installed it with something pressing hard against it at the vibrations cracked it or they somehow put a bit of load or torque on it and the pent up energy cracked it. Get them to redo it under warrenty.
yea. i rang the call line and the guy was like what the??? he rang the napier branch though and lodged it with them. i said, i got it done in hastings, do you not want to let them know? and he said na naiper would be fine. so hopefully they fix it with no charge but that should be the responsibility of hastings shouldnt it? i thought they would all operate indipendantly
Yeah it depends how the franchise works, you would imagine each store would operate independently of each other but maybe warrenty claims are all handled by head office. Or maybe they didn't want Hasting breaking another window so they gave it to Napier.
i would be happy to never deal with the hastings branch again, have had so many bad experiences with them. the only reason it went there is because it was closer to where i was when it broke the first time, so cheaper tow truck fee
shit thats a real pain in the ass,were did they get that laminated screen,it might be too big also a couple of mm makes a world of difference in glass.

yea im gonna ring them bang on 8am. its from auckland. its got a little stampy imprinty thing on it as to where it was from if u want the details. the guy in auckland has the template to make them, to make them the wrong size
