Hey guys,
I've recently acquired the following since the meet:
Carb Manifold Gasket?

Twin Carbs:

Those are all the parts that I have. Can post better/close up photos if required.
What other parts would I need to attach this to my 1500? What's the easiest way to do this procedure, and anything to watch out for? Should I buy a totally new gasket? How does tuning work once installed?
Finally, I'd like to put two RamFlo filters on - wondering which ones to use? Would these be the correct filters? http://www.lynxcorp.com.au/shopping/popUp.asp?Item=RF419S&Value=0
Also, if anyone would be keen to help out (Ross, I've sure you have experience with twin carb Avengers!) I'd be more than happy to accept!
I am not that clued up on strumburgs because I always run dellorto's but here are some pictures of an old twin strumberg setup with RamFlo filters which I used to own.
Sorry for the crap photo. The photo was taken back in 2001 with what would seem like the worlds most blurry digital camera.
I never fitted those twin sturmburgs. I got them as a package deal from a mate. $40 for 4 13x7 Hotwires + Eagers + Twin strumburgs + chrome rocker cover = Best deal ever!!

Sitting the carbys on a bench, check the throttle butterflys are opening exactly together when you pull on the accelerator cable arm (adjusted with the clamps)
Fit the carbys using a new manifold gasket, can still buy them from Partmaster, Repco, etc. as made in NZ.
The throttle needs to be converted from mechanical to cable, maybe Richard can advise on that, as he needed to do that fitting his Dellortos. Then you'll need to change the single to dual fuel lines using a T piece, along with a filter on the fuel pump inlet. Can probably get away with hooking up just one choke to your existing cable.
I can help set the mixture as I have the tool for that.
Hey man, Ive done exactly the same conversion, 1st I reccomend pulling the carbs apart on a bench, and fitting a carb kit, Part number CD200 available from repco....each kit does 1 carb. as for the throttle and choke linkages, I hooked up just one choke using the old choke cable. It starts up fine still. Throttle cable is a bit of gues work, i just hunted around the wreckers until I found a suitable cable. Then removed all the ball and cup linkages and hooked the cable through the hole on the end of the throttle pedal. its hard to expalin so i'll try and take some pictures lol.
just one choke will work too you dont need to link both carbs for that function

Hey man, thanks for that advice.
I'll go ahead and get onto that carb kit.
Would love it if you could post up some detailed photos so I can wrap my head around this and get it going!
If anyone in Auckland would like a box of beer (or two) to help get this going in a couple of weeks it would be incredible!!
pics as promised sorry 4 the delay

Man that looks good. Your car is the same colour as my new Alpine. Any idea what the CA paint code means? I thought it might be calypso, but that's red apparently....lol
Thanks so much for those pictures. They will be really handy!! Looks like the cables won't be too bad at all now that I've seen it.
Can you just confirm what the two rubber hoses are on the left and right of the carbs and where they go in the engine bay? In picture 2 & 3
CA paint code is for Caracas
You're the man!!! My other cream coloured Alpine has the code KH...any idea what that one is...I thought it might be Kalahari??
While we are doing paint naming, I will pick your brain also.
What is
LM (The yellow on my Charger)
AQ (The Aqua on my '75)
AR (The Red on my '80)
AQ is apparently Aquarius
Oh yeah and what's CL...on Logan's 1975 olive/tan auto?
My 79 GLS is also AR, either Apache Red or Avenger Red?
Sweet as. The fat one nearest the firewall is the Vacuum for the brake booster. And the skinny one near the front is the Vacuum for the Distributor advance/retard.

Who you calling fat and retarded? :)
Sorry I do skim read some of these posts :P
lol epic.
AQ is Aquarius
AR is Apache red
KH is Kalahari
Can not remember CL
LM could be Lemon Twist, I had a 73 TC of that colour
1300 super,
Can i ask how, and what you did, to make the set up of your air breather, from your rocker cover?? Im looking to do something like that myself, as when pressure in the rocker cover builds up, as well as with all the excess air, excess oil, is transferred into my air filter, maing it harder for the air to flow through, potentially starving it over time, in a much shorter period than just excess air! hahahhah,
Could you please take some pics of your set up?
Cheers MIkey.
Loving the air filter plus oil catch tank combo. Looking very smart.

Hey Mikey, Ive just got a catch can from repco so that all the gasses from under the rocker cover go into it and not into my air cleaner. I'd say your van would have a Single stromberg CD150? so all you need to do is get a catch can (from trademe or repco/supercheap etc) And just run a breather pipe from your rocker cover to the catch can. I had the same problem as you with my old 1300. It kept filling the the air filter element full of oil.
or you just get a long pipe and cabletie it to the crossmember.
Sweet As, thankyou for that, I will get onto that tomorrow, so my Van runs beautifully!
Yeap sure is, hahaha, sounds good, will i need a Air Cleaner on my set-up, just like yours??
Cheers Mikey.
Nah. you'll just be able to use the standard air cleaner. Or you could go to repco & order a K&N to suit your Stromberg, wich would look totally sweet!!
This is a good thread :) maybe be of further use to me soon :) thx guys :))
If I can't find a cable from an Avenger for my conversion, what is the next best bet? Any particular car more suitable / easier than others?
I've got a cable from another car and the twin strommies are still spare (with carb kits), can take some photos and measurements if you need?
Yeah, that would be ace. Would you be willing to separate, or did you want to keep your carb stuff all together? I wasn't really thinking about moving up to the twin set up otherwise I would have hit you up earlier. I think I got a pretty good deal and that was enough to sway me from my hardcore single stance.
On a related note did you still want those mirrors?
