Hi All,
Sorry about the ambiguous title!
After 12 months of ownership, a lot of help from family (to replace shocks and add the odd chunk of Nolothane), and help from Ross and Richard to replace the indicator switch, Im thinking of selling my wagon.
I would appreciate some feedback on what she may be worth. The WOF is a month old, and rego will be updated this week.
The paint is good, but is knackered on the roof. Interior is, well, very blue. Missing a window winder knob, but is complete otherwise.
Tear in the drivers seat. Carpet is faded, but not worn through. The ride is firm, as the shocks in the rear are Suzuki Jimny parts, and the fronts are Chrysler Avenger shocks. Could do with new springs, $299 on trademe (apparently).
Has been (almost) a daily runner for me since getting back on the road, just looking to go back to a modern. For now.
Your thoughts / Feelings would be greatly appreciated!
Damn man. You know I love your Avenger Wagon and I would be heartbroken to see it sold. With it being built within about a week of my '75 and being the same colour as my '75 I see it as being a sister-car to mine.
I totally love the blue interior, never seen that before and the blue on blue looks great.
Having said that, yes the paint is a bit knackered on the roof but having seen the wagon I think it is pretty solid for it's age.
I have always dreamed of adding a wagon to my collection but unfortunately I have other commitments at the moment (Just brought $7000+ worth of lenses for my motorsport photography business)
Good luck if you do decide to sell it and I hope it goes to a good home if you do sell it.
Not to sure about the price as I always think Avengers should be worth more than they sell for (Being the best cars ever :))
Hey Richard,
It breaks my heart a little to sell it as well. I like to think these beasts are usually bought by enthusiasts, leaving the Escorts to the hoons and idiots!
But, like yourself, I have other commitments (just bought a Canon Eos1100D, a great learner SLR), and no garage, so I think its time to someone finished it off. I don't believe its too far away, just a lick of paint on the roof and some new springs.
Ive mentioned it on the forum first, stir some interest with the enthusiasts, but if I have no luck, itll be on trademe.
Im sure if you win Lotto this weekend Richard, you'll give me a call!
Did you get the tail gate sorted Mark?
I think Graeme had a new set of springs.
Id love a Estate, how much are you wanting?
Hey Ross,
Didn't get the spring thing sorted with Graeme. He was very helpful, but was offered the torsion bar for the left hand side, and I couldn't figure out what side I needed. It looked to me like there was no left or right. Maybe at the old age of 27 my sight's on its way out! But as I said, he was more than happy to help. Highly recommended for parts.
As for the price, I was hoping this topic/forum would shed some light, as there are no other wagons to compare it to.
I was hoping it may be worth $3000 ish, but will list it as an auction on Trademe with start/reserve at $2000, see how it goes.
i would love a wagon! ill also ring if i win lotto! :)
Yeah, I think you need a degree in engineering to work out how that torsion bar system works...must be from the same guy that designed the Morris Marina suspension...surely easier to retro fit gas struts?!

I'm trying to remember, does it have the strip speedo or round dials?
Pretty sure it was strip.
Ok, probably NZ assembled then. Pretty sure the round dial ones were UK assembled, with the large chassis tag.
Yeah this wagon in NZ made. It was made within 10 days of my '75.
Just checked it on Carjam, said it was imported built up from the UK, but it has a NZ chassis number??
Also said the rego expired 9 months ago.
You are both correct! Strip speedo, and reg expired 9 moths ago. Was rectified today, fully road legal for the cool sum of nearly $300! Really should have put it on hold!!
Any spares, like the original wheels going with it Mark?

Kiera, Carjam says your Avengers birthday is August 12th, 1975.
Just over a month before my '75 hit the streets. My '75 birthday is September 26th, 1975
And the estate's birthday is September 18th, 1975
