If it helps, my Dads '62 Super Minx had the 1600 with 4 speed box, later models had the 1725 with the overdrive gearbox.

As we're talking 40+ years ago, I've no idea what they looked like.

My Dad had a SuperMinx too it ended up on its roof on a bullock! The 1600 was a forged 3 bearing crank which had a good rep' at the time. The 1725 was a cast 5 bearing crank and was fitted to the SuperMinx for the last 18 months or so of its production. I don't think they had the o/d as an option but easy enough to fit from the Singer version of the SuperMinx or Hunter. The iron headed 1725 had a crt of 8.4:1 and is said that they were threw together as Rootes were in a cost cutting panic before Chrysler took full control in 1967.

So it depends on who you talk to of course but some reckon the 1600 was a better engine but a rebuilt alloy headed 1725 out of a high spec' Hunter will go well as the alloy headed 1725 was 9.1:1 crt and properly bored in the factory. I've heard this story from a guy with a Singer Vogue (the posh SuperMinx) still running it with the 1600.
Abroad and thinkin' of avenger
