4g63t swap

Hi guys im thinking about putting a 4g63t into my crysler avenger , Have already sourced a engine and am going to pick it up next week. What do you guys think ? I know a couple guys have done sr20de swaps but haven't seen any 4g63t's done...Closet i've seen is a 4g63 in a mk2 cortina... i know i'd have to convert the engine to rwd and change the gearbox any other problems you guys can think of ? any advice appreciated , cheers

Hardly anybody puts the 4g63 motor in RWD cars as it's such a hassle. The motor has clockwise (EVO 4WD) and anti-clockwise (FWD only) rotation versions - looking at the front pulley.
The Evo one is the correct rotation for an Avenger, but there's no Mitsi RWD gearbox for it, so you'd have to mate it to another one or your Avenger one, which would blow up from too much power!
Much easier to fit a Sylvia SR20DE motor and 5 speed gearbox that's proven to work...

Yeah i was guessing there was a lot of work was mainly thinking of it cause i got the 4g63t cheap...Guess i'll just put new rings and bearings in my avenger and go from there..Thanks for the advice

Yes that's the easier option! Remember to upgrade the pussy Chrysler camshaft when you overhaul the motor...it will make noticeably more power.
The Hillman 1600 models had a warmer cam...Speedy Spares have them (71268711) or just get yours reground.

I like the original idea tho, and Mitsi and Dodge/Chrylser have always ha a long history together (on and off)

but ye now you mention it you dont see many RWD Evo's eh

i got the engine off trademe, won the motor cheap so was thinking of putting it into the avenger...But decided it'd be cheaper to do up the avenger engine and work on the 4g63t later when i find a awd car to transplant it into. My avenger is a 1200 with 1500 engine fitted so hoping when it's done i wont have too many other problems , thanks for the parts link

The 1500 had a similar pussy cam...a good idea to change it!

I could be wrong but i hope not, i believe an l300 gearbox bolts up and a starion box bolts up and i know for a fact that a 2ltr Mitsi GTO 1975 Gearbox bolts up because i just bought one today for $200 and i bolted it up to a 4g63t block which i am going to use in my 1971 Hillman Race car.

Just check your 4g63t motor has the correct rotation for an Avenger Eldon!
